GUCCI opens new store in Perth, Australia
Since Sabato De Sarno's 2023 appointment as creative director at Gucci, we have seen a new era unfurling at the luxury house. A focus on clean, contemporary lines and a laser-like focus on detail are just some of De Sarno’s design hallmarks, and there’s a distinct sense of Gucci entering its next phase. So it makes perfect sense that the physical embodiment or Gucci—i.e. its boutiques—should follow suit. Beginning with Gucci’s Monte Napoleone store in Milan and Gucci Wooster in New York City, the Italian brand’s latest boutique refresh is decidedly a lot closer to home.
Housed behind a restored façade which features a motif inspired by Western Australia’s own symbol, the black swan, an icon which features heavily in the dreamtime stories of the Whadjuk people of the Noongar nation, the design is bolstered by a giant floor-to-ceiling LED panel which wraps around the store’s rotunda. In fact, the entire boutique has been designed with LEED guidelines, in a concerted effort to implement more eco-friendly and energy-efficient strategies across the board at Gucci.
Inside, the interiors bear all the striking signifiers of De Sarno's aesthetic, such as classic optical marble flooring, which is juxtaposed with acid green and yellow carpeting to delineate different areas of the boutique. Like other Gucci stores around Australia, there is still a sense of home, with built-in displays and ivory boiserie designed to evoke the welcoming nature of walk-in closets. For a contemporary edge, countertops are fitted with slick brushed steel and anchored by beautiful pieces from Italian design stalwarts B&B Italia, Cassina, and Minotti (some reminiscent of that bold, effusive shade of Gucci Rosso Ancora) add the sophisticated final touches De Sarno is known for.
